Kitchen Fitters in Leighton Buzzard
Linslade terrace kitchens opened up and widened, Leighton estate kitchens made into diners, and new build kitchens refitted properly.
The kitchen job we are asked for most in Leighton Buzzard is on the Linslade terraces: a narrow galley in the back addition, made wide by filling in the side return with a glazed roof, and opened into the dining room on a steel. It turns the darkest room in the house into the brightest and it is one of the best value changes on a Victorian terrace. Kitchen, structure, roof, electrics, plaster and flooring as one job.
On the sixties to eighties housing around Southcott and Plantation Road it is the standard kitchen diner knock through and refit, and on the new estates at Sandhills and Clipstone Park it is a refit into a better layout, often with an island the developer never allowed for. We are twenty minutes down the A4146, we supply or fit only, and Central Bedfordshire building control handles the structural work.
Side returns, party walls and the new build refit
A side return infill on a Linslade terrace is a small extension and a kitchen renovation in one: foundations along the boundary, a wall or a glazed screen, a roof with rooflights, a steel where the old external wall was, and the whole thing designed so the kitchen runs across the new width. The party wall comes into it, so the notices go in early. Then the floor is levelled through, the electrics go in for the new layout, the room is plastered and the kitchen is fitted into a space that was designed around it.
On the new estates the walls are often stud and the job is simpler, though we confirm what carries the first floor before anything is removed. The electrics on a new build are usually adequate; on a sixties house they are not, and new circuits go in at first fix. Internal kitchen work needs no planning application; the side return and any structural opening need Building Regulations approval, and the infill may need planning permission in the Linslade conservation area. General local guidance, confirmed for your address.

CB Builders came out today after a last minute plea following a DIY mistake we had made. They were obliging, responsive, tidy and fairly priced. Thanks again for coming to our rescue!!
Questions from Leighton Buzzard
Can you widen a Linslade terrace kitchen into the side return?
Yes, and it is one of the best things you can do to that kind of house. The side return is built over with a glazed roof, the old external wall comes out on a steel, and the kitchen runs across the full new width. It involves the party wall, Building Regulations and sometimes a planning application in the conservation area, and we manage all of that as part of the job.
Will you fit a kitchen I have bought myself?
Yes. Send us the plan before you order and we will tell you whether it works in the room and what the building work around it needs to be. We fit kitchens from Howdens, Wren, Magnet, DIY Kitchens and independent makers, and we can supply if you would rather deal with one company.
Do you supply kitchens and bathrooms, or can I buy my own?
Either. Plenty of our customers buy their own kitchen from Howdens, Wren, Magnet or an independent maker and we fit it. Send us the plan before you order and we will tell you whether it works in the space.
We can also source it if you would rather one company was responsible for the whole thing. We will talk you through which route tends to work out better for your particular project.
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
A straightforward kitchen installation into a room that is ready for it is usually one to two weeks. A kitchen renovation with a wall coming out, replastering, new electrics and new flooring is more often three to five weeks from strip out to handover.
The thing that stretches it is the worktop. Stone and quartz are templated once the units are in and take a week or so to come back, so there is a pause in the middle. We plan the decorating and the flooring around it rather than leaving the room empty.
