Kitchen Fitters in Flitwick
The Flitwick kitchen: a seventies galley, a dining room next door, and one wall between them that should not be there.
Nearly every house in Flitwick was built with a small kitchen and a separate dining room, because that was how people lived in 1975. The kitchen renovation we do most there is the knock through: the wall out on a steel, the electrics brought up to what an induction hob, a double oven and an island draw, the room replastered and floored, and a kitchen fitted into a space designed for it rather than squeezed round an old wall.
The structure on a Flitwick house is predictable, blockwork walls, concrete floors, a steel that sits up flush in the joist zone, which makes the job quicker than on an older house. We are half an hour away, we do the structural work and the kitchen as one programme, and we supply or fit only, whichever you prefer.

Why the electrics matter more than the units
A sixties or seventies consumer unit and a couple of ring mains were never designed for a modern kitchen, and adding an induction hob and an island to them is how trips and overloads happen. Our electrician puts new circuits in at first fix, before the plaster, and replaces the consumer unit where it needs it. It is invisible when the kitchen is finished and it is the difference between a kitchen that works and one that keeps tripping. The plumbing follows the new layout in the same visit.
The knock through itself is two to three days at the front of the programme, designed by the engineer and inspected by Central Bedfordshire building control before it is boxed in. The floor is usually one level already, which helps. Then the plaster, the flooring, and the kitchen, fitted square onto flat walls. Internal kitchen work needs no planning application; the structural work needs Building Regulations approval. All of that is the local pattern rather than advice on your property, and we check it on the first visit.

Questions from Flitwick
Can you take the kitchen wall out and fit the kitchen as one job?
Yes, and it is the right way round. The steel goes in first, the electrician and plumber do their first fix, the plasterer follows, the flooring goes down, and the kitchen is fitted last into a finished room. One team, one programme, one point of contact, and the kitchen is designed for the room it ends up in.
How long does a Flitwick kitchen renovation take?
Three to five weeks from strip out to handover for a knock through with replastering, new electrics and flooring, with a temporary sink somewhere for the middle of it. A straight installation into a prepared room is one to two weeks. Stone worktops add a week or so after templating.
Do you supply kitchens and bathrooms, or can I buy my own?
Either. Plenty of our customers buy their own kitchen from Howdens, Wren, Magnet or an independent maker and we fit it. Send us the plan before you order and we will tell you whether it works in the space.
We can also source it if you would rather one company was responsible for the whole thing. We will talk you through which route tends to work out better for your particular project.
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
A straightforward kitchen installation into a room that is ready for it is usually one to two weeks. A kitchen renovation with a wall coming out, replastering, new electrics and new flooring is more often three to five weeks from strip out to handover.
The thing that stretches it is the worktop. Stone and quartz are templated once the units are in and take a week or so to come back, so there is a pause in the middle. We plan the decorating and the flooring around it rather than leaving the room empty.
