House Renovations in Bletchley
Interwar semis and postwar estate houses that were built solidly and are now ready for their second life.
A lot of Bletchley’s housing is between sixty and ninety years old, and it is reaching the point where the original kitchen, the original wiring and the original bathroom have all been replaced once, badly, in the eighties. A full renovation takes the whole lot back to the brick and does it properly in one go: new services, a reconfigured ground floor, kitchens and bathrooms where they should be, and every surface replastered and decorated.
These are good houses to renovate. The interwar semis along the Buckingham Road and around Far Bletchley have generous rooms and decent gardens, the fifties and sixties council built houses were built to last, and the Victorian terraces at Fenny Stratford have the bones of a very nice home once the layout is sorted. And we are a few minutes away, which matters on a job that runs for months.

Opening up a Bletchley semi
The classic Bletchley renovation is the thirties semi with the kitchen at the back, the dining room in the middle and a lean to behind. The walls between them come out, a steel goes in on padstones, and the ground floor becomes one room from the hall to the garden, usually with a small rear extension to square it off. Upstairs the box room becomes an ensuite or the bathroom moves, and the whole house is rewired, replumbed and replastered while it is open.
The things to expect: early cavity walls with little or no insulation, which we deal with during the work; concrete floors that were laid without a damp proof membrane; and chimney breasts that were removed upstairs without support. On the postwar estates the construction is straightforward and the surprises are fewer. Bletchley is Milton Keynes City Council, most of it outside any conservation area, and internal renovation work needs no planning application, though structural alterations need Building Regulations approval. General guidance, confirmed on the visit.

Questions from Bletchley
How much of a Bletchley renovation can be done under one contract?
All of it. Strip out, structural openings, a rear extension if you want one, rewire, replumb, new heating, plastering, kitchen, bathrooms, flooring and decoration, run as one programme by one team with one point of contact. That is what a full renovation means to us, and it is how the standard stays consistent from the first day to the last.
Is it cheaper to renovate a Bletchley house than to move?
Often, once stamp duty and moving costs are counted, and you end up with the house you actually want rather than someone else’s compromise. We cannot price it from a phone call, but we can come and look, and the written quotation sets out the full scope of works so you can make the comparison properly.
How long will the work take?
It depends on the job, and anyone who gives you a number without seeing the house is guessing. As a rough guide: a bathroom is two to three weeks, a kitchen refit two to four, a single storey rear extension is usually ten to fourteen weeks from breaking ground, and a full house renovation runs three to six months depending on scale.
Weather, Building Control inspections and lead times on windows, doors and kitchens all move those numbers. We build realistic float into the programme rather than promising a date we cannot hold.
Can we stay in the house while you work?
Usually yes, and most of our customers do. On an extension you can live fairly normally right up until we break through into the existing house, which we leave as late as possible for that reason.
On a full renovation it is harder but still workable. We go room by room, keep a working kitchen and bathroom going as long as possible, sheet up properly and clean down at the end of each day.
Excellent work done very professional will definitely be using them again highly recommend.
