House Renovations in Newport Pagnell
Older houses that have been patched for a century, ten minutes from our base, and the kind of whole house job we most enjoy.
The houses around Newport Pagnell’s High Street, Tickford Street and the lanes down to the river have been lived in for two hundred years, and most have been altered a dozen times by people with varying skill. A full renovation is the chance to undo all of that at once: strip back, sort the structure, put the services in properly, and finish it so it looks like one house rather than a series of decisions.
Because we are ten minutes away, a Newport Pagnell renovation runs the way a local job should. Somebody from the team is passing most days, materials arrive when they are needed rather than when the diary allows, and if you want to walk round on a Saturday morning to see where things are, that is easy to arrange.

What a whole house job finds in an older Newport Pagnell house
Strip the plaster off a Georgian or Victorian wall here and you will usually find soft brick that has been repointed in hard cement at some point, timber lintels that have sagged, and joist ends going into damp walls. None of it is alarming. All of it is better dealt with while the house is open than discovered by the next owner. Lime plaster or a breathable system goes back on the solid walls, because sealing them in with modern gypsum and vinyl paint is how these houses end up damp.
Reconfiguring the ground floor is the other regular request: the back kitchen, the scullery and the outhouse made into one room across the width of the house, with a steel where the old walls were. Newport Pagnell is one of the borough’s conservation areas, and within it changes that show from the street can need an application that the same work would not need elsewhere, while internal work on an unlisted house generally does not. General guidance, confirmed with Milton Keynes City Council where it matters.

Questions from Newport Pagnell
Can we live in the house during a full renovation in Newport Pagnell?
For a whole house job, honestly, it is better not to for the first few weeks. Strip out, structural work and first fix make every room unusable at once. Some people move into the top floor once the ground floor is watertight and the services are back on, and we sequence the work to make that possible. If you are ten minutes away with family it is often easier to stay elsewhere for the messy part.
Do you handle the rewire and the plumbing too?
Yes. A full renovation nearly always includes a rewire and new plumbing, done by our qualified electrician and plumber as part of the same programme, so first fix happens before the plastering rather than after it. You get one company and one point of contact for the whole thing.
How long will the work take?
It depends on the job, and anyone who gives you a number without seeing the house is guessing. As a rough guide: a bathroom is two to three weeks, a kitchen refit two to four, a single storey rear extension is usually ten to fourteen weeks from breaking ground, and a full house renovation runs three to six months depending on scale.
Weather, Building Control inspections and lead times on windows, doors and kitchens all move those numbers. We build realistic float into the programme rather than promising a date we cannot hold.
Can we stay in the house while you work?
Usually yes, and most of our customers do. On an extension you can live fairly normally right up until we break through into the existing house, which we leave as late as possible for that reason.
On a full renovation it is harder but still workable. We go room by room, keep a working kitchen and bathroom going as long as possible, sheet up properly and clean down at the end of each day.
Really helpful, efficient and accommodating. Would recommend if you need anything doing.
