Kitchen fitting and renovations work of the kind we carry out in Towcester

Kitchen Renovations in Towcester

Kitchens in ironstone cottages and on brand new estates, twenty minutes up the A5 from us.

Around Towcester the kitchen jobs range from a stone cottage in Greens Norton or Silverstone, where the kitchen is a low room with a floor laid on the earth and walls that lean, to a new house at Towcester Vale where the kitchen is fine but the layout is not. In between are the Georgian and Victorian houses on and around Watling Street, with small back kitchens that want opening into the next room on a steel.

We do the lot, and what we bring is the building work around the kitchen: the structural opening, the floor, the plaster, the electrics and the plumbing, done by our own trades in one programme, so the kitchen is fitted into a room that is ready for it. Supply or fit only, whichever you prefer, and West Northamptonshire Council handles the building control on the structural work.

Cottage kitchens and estate kitchens

A cottage kitchen in an ironstone house needs the walls to breathe, so any replastering behind the units is lime or a breathable system rather than gypsum, and the floor, often laid straight on the ground, gets its damp dealt with honestly rather than covered up with a new floor and a hope. Low ceilings and deep window reveals push the design towards base units and open shelving rather than wall units, and a range in an old fireplace opening needs the flue looked at properly. If the cottage is listed, internal changes can need consent.

On the new estates the kitchen is usually a straight refit with a better layout, and the walls between kitchen and dining room are sometimes stud, which we confirm before anything is planned. In the town the knock through is a load bearing wall in soft brick with an engineer’s steel and a building control inspection. That is general local guidance; the position for your house is confirmed before anything is committed.

Questions from Towcester

Can you fit a kitchen in a stone cottage near Towcester?

Yes, with the preparation an old room needs: breathable plaster, an honest approach to the floor, and units scribed to walls that were never straight. If the cottage is listed, some internal changes need consent first and we will say so early. The result is a kitchen that looks as though it belongs in the building rather than one bolted onto it.

Do you cover the villages around Towcester as well as the town?

Yes. Greens Norton, Silverstone, Abthorpe, Blakesley, Paulerspury and the villages along the A5 and A43 are all within our regular area, and a kitchen renovation lasting several weeks makes the distance from Milton Keynes irrelevant.

Do you supply kitchens and bathrooms, or can I buy my own?

Either. Plenty of our customers buy their own kitchen from Howdens, Wren, Magnet or an independent maker and we fit it. Send us the plan before you order and we will tell you whether it works in the space.

We can also source it if you would rather one company was responsible for the whole thing. We will talk you through which route tends to work out better for your particular project.

How long does a kitchen renovation take?

A straightforward kitchen installation into a room that is ready for it is usually one to two weeks. A kitchen renovation with a wall coming out, replastering, new electrics and new flooring is more often three to five weeks from strip out to handover.

The thing that stretches it is the worktop. Stone and quartz are templated once the units are in and take a week or so to come back, so there is a pause in the middle. We plan the decorating and the flooring around it rather than leaving the room empty.

We recently had our small garden transformed by CB Builders. Paving, natural turf, flower beds and pergola. We couldn’t be happier with the results.
